GREENBAFx®: ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt Invests in CO₂-Free Heat Treatment Technology

With the sale of the world’s first GREENBAFx® bell annealer, EBNER Industrieofenbau and ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt are implementing a pioneering project for industrial decarbonization. The new facility marks a major technological advance in heat treatment and sets new standards for future-oriented, emission-free steel production.

GREENBAFx® technology represents a new generation of bell annealer facilities. By using electric heating, it enables completely CO₂-free heat treatment and thus makes a significant contribution to reducing industrial emissions.

Innovative Technology for Greater Energy Efficiency

A key feature of the new facility is the combination of an innovative electric heating system and a highly efficient heat exchange module. Depending on annealing temperature and charge weight, this can reduce energy consumption by up to 30% compared with the existing natural gas-heated plant.

In addition to these significant energy savings, direct CO₂ emissions are completely eliminated. GREENBAFx® therefore combines environmental responsibility with high technological performance and economic efficiency.

Pilot Project with Group-Wide Impact

Within the ArcelorMittal Group, the new GREENBAFx® bell annealer plant plays a special role: it is regarded as a benchmark for future decarbonization projects and will be made available across the Group for trial annealing and evaluations.
